Siem Reap Day 2

The next morning by 5.20am were we already on our way to Angkor Wat.
we took a day pass at USD20 each. those below 12 is free. Punya lah ramai orang gelap2 tu...if you happen to have a torchlight, bawa sekali because the route walaupun straight but can be uneven and ada tangga turun naik sikit.
DH took many photos of sunrise in angkor wat, but I will only put up 1. During this time we were separated, DH with Irfan and Alia with me...DH nak cepat sebab nak set up tripod etcs..by the time Alia and I reached where the crowd was, they were nowhere to be seen.
So we waited for them, I managed to take photos of the crowd.. this is just one section
And we waited for them here
DH took a photos of us...
from here.  We were standing at the top right hand corner in the previous photo. If you want your photos to stand out in Angkor Wat, wear something bright- advise from a colleague who went there before us.
Most of the statues tak de kepala...stolen and sold in black market
One of the entrance in Angkor wat. We exited from here to go to other temples. Our driver told us that it seems that there were temples only being discovered now because of the thick jungles. We did not stop at all the temples, only Angkor, Bayon and Ta Prohm.

Next stop...Bayon, our driver followed us here to help take our photos.

Outside Bayon, makan time, Salim had thoughtfully pack us a tasty nasi ayam knowing that there were no halal eateries around.
Next stop Ta Prohm... berebut orang nak amik gambar depan pokok ni... I guess you why, don't you?

Other parts of Ta Prohm... our next destination..Kbal Spean...the journey took about one hour. If you want to see this personally you have to hike for about 45 minutes.
 Stone carvings...
under the waterfalls

under the water

hiking? 40 minutes? at 1pm? I would rather do this...so, while DH went hiking, the kids and I took a short break at one of the eateries. our tuktuk ordered air kelapa for us and i had a short nap while the kids were talking/resting in their hammock.

On our way back, we stop at Banteay Srei...the nicest looking temples around..
It's a totally different stones and carvings from the previous temples. this is one of the earliest temples in Angkor..
playing hide and seek
Irfan in one of his jovial mood...kalau pagi2 jangan harap nak dapat gambar macam ni..
a place to sit after lots of walking

one last photo before we go off

Along the way back we saw this...palm sugar in the making, they gave us some samples, Salim nego the price for us and we bought USD5 worth of palm sugar for our family...kalau buat onde-onde sedap ni..
we stopped by the killing field nearby... not many description here. I notice that even in Angkor, you do not have any description of/in the temples, only in Banteay Srei you can read some descriptions of the temples.
singgah kedai silver...silver accessories in the making...prices..mak oiii...even in ringgit I would
not buy...apalagi USD. Sebelah kedai ada silk shop..hmmm this is more interesting...the colours..lawanye, so colourful, they even have more variety than artisan angkor place. Lepas ni balik hotel rehat.

Malam, after dinner we went to night market area again...saw this, crocodile burgers anyone?
after a long day...this is bliss..30 mins foot massage at USD10 for the 4 of us...first time for the kids...
tomorrow...museum and Tonle Sap.

Trip to Siem Reap

Our family holiday this time is Siem Reap. As usual we took the first flight in the morning and reach Siem Reap  before 8am. The airport reminds me of  a very big car park.. no skybridge, there's even a place to take photos before you go off into the airport building. Our tuk tuk driver, Salim was already waiting for us.
If you need a tuktuk driver, try Salim, he can speak Malay, a huge plus point for us. His service was excellent, the best driver I had while travelling.
We went to our hotel first to unload our bags, then straight for breakfast at Muslim Family Kitchen. I had ' deep cooked beef with bread'..the beef was so so, but the bread....sedapnye..
The prices are all in USD

First stop, War museum, USD5 per person

Irfan posing

since out tuktuk driver is around to take our photos, banyaklah gambar family
the best part for the boys
Next stop...silk farm. Each cocoon can produce 100m of raw silk and 300m of fine silk. Colours of cocoon differs between countries.
Boiling the cocoon to get the raw silk
Handmade silk tablecloth in the making
the different types of silk
the shop..too bad they don't allow any photos here...the quality of the products is outstanding..price pun boleh tahan mahal about USD35 for a scarf,  i guess the price is still acceptable if you consider that it's handmade...but i didn't buy anything here.
On the way back our driver stop by a stall and bought 'lemang' for us...it tasted like ketupat daun palas with kacang. Lepas tu balik bilik, take a short rest, mansi, solat etc..then after maghrib we go out for dinner.
have to try their ' lembu naik bukit'.. a dish that they prepare in front of you. it consist of beef fried on a 'bukit like' structure with vegetables and soup.
not bad... comes with two types of dipping
ikan tiga rasa..cambodian style...the best dish we had here.

Lepas dinner, pergi night market, shopping...for shawls, then stop by for foot reflexology, since the kids don't want it, we only took a 10mins massage.

then balik tidur, besok after Subuh to....Angkor wat

masak-masak

We have been getting our supply of fresh seafood from Bagan Pasir for almost a year now.  These are some of the seafood that I've been cooking for the family. Some of the dishes, after I cooked for 2-3 times, my maid can easily reproduce it.

 Ikan tenggiri tiga rasa
 Butterfly cut prawn-masak tiga rasa.
Creamy butter prawn - the kids really like the sauce, I always made this with extra sauce, usually using 3/4 to 1 can of evaporated milk. Anything less will not be enough.
Udang masak merah..tuan punya tangan kat belakang dah tak sabar nak makan.
Pan-fried tenggiri slice with baked macaroni and salads
Prawn with dried chillies - sort of kung pao chicken but with prawns
kam heong crabs - also made lala using this recipe
our latest favourite- salted egg yolk crab. Initially I cooked 1.8kg of crabs with 6 salted egg yolks...not enough. So the second time I made this I used 8 salted egg yolks for about the same amount of crabs...yummy...calories, cholesterol salt content-- belakang kira. what to do with the leftover salted egg white pun belakang kira.

Not in pictures but our favourites too- Ikan kembung percik, ikan cencaru sumbat, ikan bawal masak portugese style, asam pedas ikan jenak/tenggiri.
